NES adapter ?
by on (#65857)
I have an adapter with input 240V and output 12V, 1.0A, 60Hz. Can I use this adapter with real NES(NTSC).

I tried this once without a cart. The NES LED lits up when i plug this adaptar in. Is there any bad(long term) effect of using a non-nintendo adaptar instead of an original one?

It'll probably be ok if the sound doesn't buzz

Another problem,

The Audio video out is confusing. There is only one socket for this. So far I have used those where there are 2 wires: 1 red and 1 white or yellow. something like this http://www.nintendorepairshop.com/shopexd.asp?id=184.
Also, the output from this single AV out goes to a small box(perhaps RF??).

I will try posting pics for clarity.

is this a front of top loading nes?

the box is an rf modulator, u plug it into your cable,

on a front loading nes the regular composite out is on side of the machine, top loaders do not have this.

Oh yeah.... :) Thanks
I did not notice the side.. the yellow and white sockets are present on the side (Am using a front loading nes).

I ran the system with the 12V adapter and the AV output cable(both are not original ones). The games are running fine but there's perhaps some problem with image quality. The edges of sprites and bg tiles are very visible specially when the screen is scrolling. Is this something that is normal?

Does it look like what you get when you run a game in Nestopia with Options > Video > Display > Filter set to NTSC? Do the sides of the blue bricks in WORLD 1-2 of Super Mario Bros. look irregular? If so, that's normal. The NTSC picture generator in the NES PPU takes shortcuts to save cost, and some games such as Faxanadu and Blaster Master in fact rely on this to add texture to the backgrounds. The Famicom Titler and Wii Virtual Console, on the other hand, have a more correct NTSC output.

If you're playing on an HDTV, the TV might be performing a sharpen filter on the image. On an NES through a composite video cable, you don't want artificial sharpness, so try turning that down in your TV's picture adjustment menu.
