In the last week I've become obsessed with implementing an NES on an FPGA from the ground up. The 6502 core is coming along nicely.

There are a few of us here (4?) who have been working on the same thing. Nice to see someone else using Verilog for a change.
Nice! Do you or any of the other's have pages documenting your progress? I'd love to see how other people are coming along.
Can't speak for others but I don't have one. My goal is to interface with original hardware and do so with as few gates as possible. So far I have most of a low-level PPU, composite video generator and a CPU without the PLA/instruction decoder. I haven't worked on it in nearly a year (too frustrating on a netbook) so there won't be any progress from me for a while. I understand some guys besides Kevtris do have games playable though.
