Dumpers besides CopyNES

Dumpers besides CopyNES
by on (#44667)
Besides CopyNES, what other NTSC NES rom dumpers are out there? Also, what's the advantage to CopyNES being integrated to an NES? I've seen other dumpers like the Chameleon-NES and ChameleonUSB that are stand alone.

What dumpers does GoodNES support? I'd like to dump some of my carts in UNIF format.

Don't bother. Tennessee has contacted me off-site and basically said the UNIF format should be deleted/taken off the face of the earth. Stick with NES.

Good, now we can go back to easily extracting CHR and PRG data from iNES files. The only time I had to do this with a UNIF ROM everything became a bloody mess. And I needed to do it because there was a bunch of wrong information that prevented the game from working correctly. Once converted to iNES, with the correct header, everything was fine.

Point taken. Forget UNIF.

Anyone know of reliable stand-alone dumpers? Or is there a good reason to have one combined with a NES?

The benefits of having it integrated with NES are it already has the cart slot, and you can run the game before dumping so you know it is making good contact. Of course you can immediately test your dump in an emulator but its just more convenient to see it on the real thing first.

Someone else was working on a stand alone USB one but that was a while ago and I can't remember who it was...

So, since most of the games on the NES are already dumped and available on the internet, who dumped them and how? CopyNES hasn't been around too long, so how were they dumped?

Desoldering the ROMs and reading them directly is always an option... I doubt anyone would want to do that to rare games though.
