NES 2 A/V Mod
by on (#30212)
So I was looking at 4 page compilation of Mod tutorials for the NES the other day and I was sure I bookmarked the site. I think it's part of Nesdev, but maybe not. One of the tutorials I was most interested in was the NES A/V mod. Does anyone have a link to this site with all these different mods? Was I dreaming? I found this on google, but the page won't load: http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/nes2avmod.htm if anyone knows the site I'm talking about please send a link!

You can find the most recent archive of the site here, from the Wayback Machine. If you want, you can browse through older archives here.

Did the first Nintendo have A/V like that? That would be nice to have because I have the NES 2 also.

Yes, the original toaster NES always had A/V output. Why they removed it in a newer model is a mystery. Why didn't they just use the same A/V port as the SNES and A/V Famicom, and include/offer a separate RF adapter like the N64 had?

Because at the time, far more TVs sold in North America had RF in than composite in. A lot of people used a spare VCR as an RF modulator. It took DVD-Video and the fact that VCRs distorted DVDs' Macrovision copy protection to really push composite input as a universal requirement in the U.S. TV market.
