Famicom-to-NES converter modding
by on (#1951)
I finally got a Famicom-to-NES converter in the mail in hopes of using it to get VRC-6 support out of my NES. The NES has already been modded in accordance with the details and pictures from this thread, so now what exactly do I do with the converter? The instructions say to solder one pin from the Famicom side to another pin on the NES side, but neither I nor the person doing the mod knows which side to count on (front or back) or which side to count from (left or right). So, if someone could please draw on these two pictures to show us exactly what to do with what, we would be much obliged:

The "front" being the side that goes in a toaster-style NES face up. If those links don't work:

It doesn't look like there are any metal edge connectors in the middle of the connector. You might have to end up glueing a piece of metal there.

The one you'd solder to on the famicom side are pretty obvious.
See the 2 pins that have no traces that go anywhere? (its on the side with all the parts on it). The unused pin twords the transistors/caps/resistors.

Well, even so, the mod guy needs diagrams or pictures with big red marks on them or something so that even a first grader could do it. We'd both rather he not screw up the converter and make me have to track down another one. Talk to us like we've never dealt with NES hardware in our lives (because more than likely, we haven't) and give us big red markings on the picture. :P He seems to have understood what you said, but big red marks are definitely his friends. We'd need to know what to solder where, where to glue the metal piece so it doesn't screw everything up...basically anything vital.

Sorry to be a pain, but really, we just want to make sure everything is done right.
