free pcb and schematic design software
by Neon on 2006-10-04 (#18187)
i found a website with a really nice and free pcb and schematic design software package. They allso have some info and tips on their site.
go to http://www.expresspcb.com
I've used it, it's pretty decent. Certainly easy to use. The bad thing is that it uses a proprietary format, so if you want to have your board made you'll be permanently stuck with ExpressPCB. They're not bad, but they're not the cheapest when you go beyond prototypes and they don't offer much options either.
I've never made my own PCB, but at scool I had to make exercices with PCB making programms, just like if I would to make my own PCB. We were taught to use a programm called OrCad Layout, but I think it wasn't very good and had a lot of bugs, and additionally it wasn't free.
I really would like to create my PCBs someday for anything. This just sound cool.

Really? I think OrCAD is the best, next probably I would choose an old copy of Protel.
I don't know since I never used anything but OrCad for PCB design, but it was a LOT glitchy.
However, the shematic deisgn programm also from OrCad (Capture) is really good.
