It's me again. So, I have a few Hong Kong Famicoms, and I found something interesting while opening them up.
Earlier units have additional wires running from the RF box to the mobo, while later units don't.
Example of earlier unit: HPH114600
Has three wires from RF box to mobo, with soldering points marked as "D", "E" and "F".
The sticker on the RF box has sharper, smaller text.
Example of later unit: HPH153857
Has no wires and no marking on soldering points.
The sticker on the RF box has blurrier, larger text, so the RF box hardware may be a revision with something different.
I'm not a hardware expert or programmer, just a collector and gamer. Any ideas what those wires are for? The mod looks similar to what Nintendo did with the PAL Hong Kong SNES, which is three wires and a crystal which control the 50/60Hz switch:
So I think this could be the control for the Slow/Normal switch at the back of the Hong Kong Famicom? But why is it missing in later units?
