Since lidnariq started referring to apparently unknown capacitor values in my 5B amplifier thread, I thought it might be a good time to finally try to open my Famicom carts. I managed to open 3 of them, but at least 1 tab was broken on each of them (ouch). Was trying the "quick grip" method, but it really didn't help much for these. The MMC5 carts actually use screws (6 notches in a circular head), which worked with a screwdriver head I previously had for taking apart an SNES. Couldn't even manage to get my Rolling Thunder N163 open despite applying quite a bit of force, and it's a little beat up (a bunch of chips and scratches indicates someone else tried first...). My Erika to Satoru no Yumebouken N163 has glue filling some holes in the side of the shell (once again someone has beat me to it) so I'm not even going to try in that one.
I took some quick photos, but I'll link to the bootgod database where the photos are better. These boards don't seem to differ from the ones there. If there's any questions you'd like me to answer while I have these apart (I'm not doing this again) I'm going to keep them out for a few days before I put them back together. (e.g. if you'd like me to test continuity with a multimeter).
Anyway, here's Gimmick:
5B Gimmick! (bootgod)
C1: {R} / 85°C / M4413 / 6.3 v / 47 µF (top left)
C2: 103 (top right, 10nF)
C3/C4: 85°C / (M) / 228 / 50 v / 1 (top middle, does not say µF after 1)
R1: 10 x 100 5% (right top, brown black orange gold)
R2: 10 x 1k 5% (right bottom, brown black red gold)
R3: 10 x 10k 5% (middle, brown black yellow gold)
