NES cartridge maximum current

Howdy folks,

I'm considering some projects that involve putting all sorts of asinine components in a custom cartridge, and I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge or experience about how much current i could safely draw from the 5V pins on the cartridge side of the system,

Well ...

There's a 1A voltage regulator...

Without any peripherals the NES draws roughly 350mA ...

Ordinary card edge connectors are usually good for roughly 1A also...

so I guess that sorta means you have very roughly 600mA @ 5V left for everything in the cartridge...

Important phrase, there. I know the SNES can have problems from peripherals.

If you only intend to use it on your own NES you could upgrade the power delivery. Or your could design the cartridge like the SNES copiers and have its own power supply to the cartridge.
