I made a cart for testing games, it consists of PRG ROM (32mBit flash) & CHR RAM. It allows running NROM, UNROM, CNROM, MMC1 and CAMERICA games.
All games are programmed into PRG_ROM. When user selects game he wants to play, it fills CHR RAM with its tiles (if its NROM/CNROM game) from flash and starts it.
All games works, except:
Zooming Secretary (2011)(PinWizz & Shiru)[pd]
Alter Ego (2011)(Shiru, Kulor & Denis Grachev)[pd]
Those games work, but the screen is totally black - no tiles & background. However, there is music & sound effect. Bot of the games are made by shiru so I think there might be some problem with them. They are NROM games (8kB CHR-ROM), but I suspect that they might clear pattern tables. If they were burned into CHR-ROM, it would take no effect, but if its i CHR-RAM, it is cleared and that might be the reason of not working.
Did anyone encountered similar effect on them?
Does powerpak/everynes protect CHR-RAM from writes when CHR-ROM based game is loaded?
