Just to be clear, in its original context, the picture cornsyrup32 attached above doesn't imply the games (software) in red can make use of battery saves. It only means if a battery is added to the hardware, then the ROM can be replaced with a game that does use battery saves.
The list shows what compatible donor cartridge you need to provide if you want that site to burn, for example, Earthbound. On that site, you can scroll down to Earthbound and click the circuit board to see the list in context:

This reproduction requires one of the following donor carts; no other game will work. You must send us one of these games to be converted to the reproduction of your choice. If you're unable to find any of these games, e-mail us, we sometimes have extra donor carts which we sell at cost.
Games in RED can also be used, but an extra charge of $3 will apply to upgrade the game to use a battery.
In other words, that site is upgrading the final burned game (upgrading the donor hardware), not upgrading the original donor game.
