VRC6: Please run my test rom
by on (#125754)
I find the extended features of the VRC6 a bit confusing at times, and no game ever used them. Accordingly, I've created a test rom to help implement the chip correctly. But since the test rom was created from my own understanding of the chip, it may be wrong.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I would appreciate it if someone could run this test rom on real hardware. both iNES 24 and 26 variants are included; running either would be sufficient.

The test is fully automatic, and after approximately 8 seconds or less, will print a message on the screen.

Thank you!

I gave this a run on my Everdrive N8, and it says "Test Failed: 00 09 80 81" on both ROMs.

Thanks. Seems like the Everdrive N8 doesn't implement the extended mirroring mode stuff. Which is no surprise I guess, as it's not needed to run any VRC6 games. Still would like to see a test on actual VRC6 silicon, though.

I am also interested to see it tested with actual VRC6 cartridges. We can figure out more how it works, and therefore to fix emulators and so on to support these features. Although no existing games use it, it is necessary to make a complete VRC6 implementation, and may be useful in future in case someone is writing more programs that use VRC6 mapper.

I don't know if it's still useful anymore, but I came across this post shortly after I finished putting sockets on an Esper Dreams 2 cart to try out the translation, so I thought I'd give your test a try. I used vrc26test mirrored to fill 28f512s, and when I ran it in my top loader with famicom adapter, I got "All Tests Passed!" Also, the translation worked!
Oh, just in case, the chip is a

The original cartridge that I asked BootGod to extract the truth table from was a copy of Madara, so it's nice to have corroboration here.
