Basic Kazzo Help!
by on (#116164)
Hi folks!

Picked up a Kazzo and I already love the thing for dumping protos. I was able to dump a decent amount of NES stuff with the excellent instructions found here:

Unfortunately, I am completely stumped as to how to dump SNES games. Anyone have an "idiots" guide to dump SNES protos with the Kazzo? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

As advertised it's not designed to dump original SNES games based on the pitch issues and pin width's of original SNES carts...

Quote:
■Both 72 pin NES and 60 pin Famicom (FC) cartridge connectors for dumping original carts, and flashing development carts.
■SNES connector specifically designed for flashing our INL SNES Hi/LoROM cartridges ONLY.
■While it may be possible to dump original SNES cartridges, the narrow width of the connector pins and differing pitch makes this difficult, and not guaranteed to work.
■Our flash carts have been designed with widened connector pins to allow them to be compatible with this device and the SNES with their slightly differing pitch.

There is no "idiots guide" because there isn't any firmware and software currently written even try to dump SNES carts assuming you could get around the connector issues. The only way to do it currently is write you own software and firmware for the open source device. I plan on implementing SNES cartridge dumping with my own firmware and software, but I don't know when that'll be. It's low priority since that's not even really an intented use for the device.

Perhaps I should play it safe and just say it doesn't dump SNES carts at all... If you have any issues with your purchase please contact me via email/PM paul@InfiniteNesLives.com

Doh! Alright, I guess I should have read more carefully. That 3rd bullet that reads "While it may be possible to dump original SNES cartridges, the narrow width of the connector pins and differing pitch makes this difficult, and not guaranteed to work." led me to think that it was capable of dumping, but not guaranteed to work in the process. My bad.

Very happy with the product overall and I plan on contacting you in the future for NES and SNES flashable PCBs. I'll shoot you an email soon, thanks for the quick response!

I added a SNES connector to my version so it's possible. But the connectors' pitch and supporting software and firmware stand in the way.
