Has anyone modify AV Famicom to connect all pins in the NES ports without disconnecting them from the Famicom expansion port? (This means bit0, bit3, and bit4 of $4017 are connected to both the second NES port and the Famicom expansion port.) Is it easy to do? (I don't have any NES or Famicom, and have never seen the inside.)
AV Famicom Zapper mod exists.

viewtopic.php?p=34665#p34665OK, that helps, if I get some AV Famicom. The wiki says the bit3 and bit4 on the first NES port aren't connected either; if this is true, how to make this work too? (for example, then the light gun and keyboard can be connected simultaneously)
It looks like the AV Famicom ("HVCN-CPU") and NES2 ("NESN-CPU") both use the special-purpose ASIC "BU3266", so making the zapper work on the P1 port of an AV famicom should just be a matter of figuring out which pins on that IC are connected in the NES2 and connecting them.
Given that it's just a matter of four extra traces, it's a little confusing that Big N didn't add them.
The one thing remaining to add, is a microphone port, I guess, and then after all the other things mentioned here are also added, it is much better than the RF Famicom and both NES models.
Therefore some day I should buy AV Famicom and make these modifications.
