He's even making a 2a0x sound engine. :)

Neil Baldwin suggested in our most recent email that he would be interested in scheduling a #nesdev Q&A session regarding his history and his up-coming Nijuu sound engine.

How many are interested so far?

by on (#46154)
I'm in.

You're seriously going to have Neil Baldwin join the #nesdev EFnet IRC channel? He'd best be pissed by the time he joins, otherwise he'll have the desire to drink shortly thereafter.

by on (#46158)
Hey, I think that sounds awesome! That'd be really cool of him to do something like that.

@koitsu: I think you are thinking of the IRC channel from back-in-the-day. It's a different beast than what it used to be : )

I wish that were the case. I don't need to be there to know how it is today, because I *still* get people dropping me notes about how the channel is in general. I know of 4 separate individuals (not including _Bnu) who have all told me the channel is still a cess pool. But hey, that's IRC.

I can point people to the "why koitsu left nesdev" thread here on the forum if they want added confirmation. *shrug* I guess that's why I laughed when Xkeeper here rode my ass about "taking this stuff too seriously" -- I'm joshing around 90% of the time, compared to how I was 10-15 years ago, which was the polar opposite.

If you plan on talking to someone "big", especially Neil, I highly recommend you +m the channel and +v Neil, then have people /privmsg you (or whoever chooses to be the moderator) questions to ask publicly and see his responses. Otherwise, you can definitely assume someone will say something that will spiral out of control.

by on (#46168)
koitsu: I'll take care of it. There aren't many people to worry about. Neil is also a pretty care-free guy. I have a good feeling about this.

I'm planning on posting a channel log here for those too busy or prejudiced to join. ;)

by on (#46288)
Lemme know - I'd love to be there.

Hello all!

I thought it was about time I signed up to the NesDev forums.

Let me know what you decide about the IRC stuff. I'm definitely up for it and certainly not easily offended. If it gets too noisy (if you know what I mean) then I *will* get bored.

:)

Welcome to NesDev forums, neilbaldwin!

I can see that you're an 'important' guy but I don't know why
So, what you did to gain such attention? :P

According to the web site linked at the top of the topic, Neil's music was included in an NES game published during the NES's commercial era.

Welcome, Neil. :D

Since you're here, just tell us a time that's good for you and I'll moderate our Q&A session that you choose. :)

The channel will not get "noisy". I assure you. ;)

Let me have a think.

I'll also need some IRC software for OSX - any recommendations? I've seen mIRC mentioned a few times in the past.

by on (#46361)
If you use Firefox, you can install Chatzilla. http://www.aquaticx.com/ < this also looks nice.

by on (#46369)
I've found Snak to blow all the other Mac IRC clients away. It preserves the nature of IRC, rather than trying to make it look like an instant messenging client.

by on (#46371)
I'll give Snak a try then, AcquaticX crashes constantly on my MacBook :(

by on (#46533)
Right, I've got Snak installed and working and I've just been over to embarrass myself (with my lack of IRC skill) at #nesdev.

So, I was thinking maybe this Thursday? That's about the only free day (night) I have this week.

I'll let B00daW do all the hard work, just let me know a time (GMT) that you want me there.

(There's an update to the website too, if you've not seen it already).

Neil

by on (#46534)
Oh I see "loopy" is on there too.

Hopefully he'll be able to join in - I've some questions to ask myself about ASM6 (my preferred assembler)

:)

by on (#46542)
Neil: Thursday sounds fine. I start work on Monday and will probably only have Thursday if this works out. Yeah. loopy has become a regular again. As for a time, I know things get later for you than they are here. Afternoon here (12-1PM -5GMT)) or evening when people get off work is fine (5-6PM -5GMT). Post here and drop me an e-mail just to make sure we're in good communication. :)

There should be a lot to talk about.

Good job with your recent Nijuu song, by the way. :D

Cool, Thursday it is then.

Shall we make it 6PM your time? I think that makes it 11PM here - I'm too good to you :)

Please be patient with me, IRC is not something I've ever used before.

Guidelines:

- Let the man talk.
- More or less one question at a time.
- Try to wait your turn and stay on topic.
- Don't overly worship or confuse the man with today's advancements.
- Learn and have mature and responsible fun.

'wtf y dont u use lsdj!! its da BEST, DMG 4 life'' 8)

I'll likely join in tomorrow during work, possibly ask some questions between customers. See you then!
