Metal Gear Music - Covers?
by on (#32290)
I really like the music from this game, but the problem is, I can't find covers to the songs I like from it: the password, intro, & climax themes.

Is there a band or someone who has covered all the music in this game? Also, did the MSX version essentially have the same music?

I wanted to start a cover project for it, but apparently nobody at OCR noticed my post. :?

Some of the music is different. If you have played Virtual Missions on the PS1, then you heard some of the tunes on the MSX version. Check out these couple of vids:

I'm not sure if any of it has been covered by any group or not. Hope this helps some.

Okay, good to know.

I'd still like to start a cover project, but I'm not really a musician.

Not sure if this is still relevant to you but I'll give it a shot-

Yeah but I don't think it sounded as good, and it also didn't have the main jungle theme. Pretty much everyone will tell you that the NES port was sloppy and inferior to the MSX version, which is true, but the NES got the better music. :)

I've ripped mp3 soundtracks for each pre-MGS Metal Gear game if you wanted to check them out. here and here.

For covers you can check out some contributions to the Dwelling of Duels Metal Gear Month. I don't know of anyone who's gone through the whole soundtrack Xoc style or anything though.

Yay, thread revival. I don't have an answer to the original question, but did want to add that I think Metal Gear 2 for MSX is IMHO among Konami's best soundtracks.

This soundtrack was one of my inspirations (along with the arcade Spy Hunter) for me designing the Squeedo NES synth. Eventually I hope to make some covers with it. I've too much other stuff to do right now though..

Seriously! Theme of Solid Snake and Zanzibar Breeze are such excellent tracks. The soundtrack as a whole floored me when I was playing the ps2 re-release and it's what made me look into kss files.

I really love this OC ReMix of the opening theme from Metal Gear on NES: Metal Gear FirstImpressions OC ReMix.

Okay, just to let you all know - I'm still for doing an OCR cover project. I'm going as far as designing a album cover for it.

I've also decided that I need to play the MSX version of this game, too. I want to get into the whole MG/MG2 before diving into MGS/2/3 - yes, I'm far behind. :(

Okay, excuse me for bringing this thread from its undeniable death.

I have decided to hold this project, Metal Gear Metal:

It's open for anyone who wants to do it, but please contact me first before submitting, because I'd like this to be more of a collaboration rather than a contest.

Cool. 8)
