Hey all! Here's a cover by me. And it's none other than the Springalingish pinball zone from Sonic Compact Disc! Woohoo!

It's funny how less memorable the Sonic CD soundtrack is to me compared to the other 16-bit games (and even the 8-bit ones), considering the amount of freedom they gained from using CD audio. I guess that working under constraints results in more focused work, which must be better designed than if you had no constraints at all. Maybe you could say the same about coding for these old platforms we like versus coding PC games.

Anyway, the cover sounds nice, even if I can't recall how the original sounded! =)

Remember those realistic waves from that racing game for the 64? Here's my attempt at making it 8-bit. Yahoo! :P

I think that might sound more beautiful and serene than the original, actually...great job!

Would you consider doing any songs from Star Fox 64, say, Aquas or the main theme?

Here's a challenge for ya. Thunder Force IV: Metal Squad covered 2A03 only.

I would suggest using the DPCM for the lead (such as a sample of a guitar strum filled in with bassline samples), though you could probably get better results with a square lead. Just my two cents.

I'll have to listen to Aquas in depth and see if it's feasible to do in strict 2A03 (I'd rather not use expansion chips unless it's necessary).

By main theme, you mean the intro? Or the title?

I haven't played Thunder Force IV, but I might be willing to give that a try.

Sorry for the late response!

Whoops, I meant the intro. Minus the ambience at the beginning, of course. :)

I finally got around to covering Aquas. I felt it sounded too restricted without expansion audio, so I made two versions:

2A03: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QelJ2Qq5mEc
MMC5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkR-sjT0INM
