I was hoping that one of our Japanese speaking members would be willing to roughly translate what is being discussed on this news footage.

The giant whirlpool looks like it is close to a shoreline, but I don't know where along the shore it is.

Hell, more importantly are ya'll Japanese guys alright?

by on (#75483)
- Uh... banshaku is one guy! Am I right?

by on (#75484)
Yeah, he lives in Japan... He hasn't posted for quite a while now. Hope he shows up soon to let us know he's alright.

by on (#75488)
I guess Chris Cowell was over there too. Also hope he shows up !

Altough Lord already confirmed it I just got an email myself that Chris COVELL (now cowell) is ok ;-)

Me and my family are fine. I relocated them in the south because of the next issue which is the possible nuclear reactor meltdown which I hope will not happen.

I didn't access a computer for a while so I didn't follow nesdev at all like I do usually everyday. I don't think I can focus on games at all these days.

It was shaking quite a lot on the 11th around 14h. It was so strong that it lasted for a few minutes. I never saw a building move so much in my life. It was quite scary.

Then all the train were stopped. This mean if you were leaving outside Tokyo, tough luck: you either go back by foot and walk 30km or more or wait at some shelter that something goes better.

Aftershock were so common that we didn't know if another big earthquake was going to happen or not. Then the tsunami news, everybody in the north affected. They have no food, no water, no power, no gaz and now the weather is going bad. They are in hell right now. The death toll is rising everyday.

And now if it wasn't enough, the nuclear reactor is going quite bad in Fukushima. This increase the stress of everybody. They don't know what they are doing and nothing seems to really go forward.

Controlled blackout are done around Tokyo to reduce the power usage to avoid a complete blackout.

Let's just say these days I'm not in the mood to work in Tokyo. I would prefer to be elsewhere with my family. I will go back to the south tonight to take another rest but this is quite costly to do so. And I have to go back after the long weekend to work..

I will try to give more news once I can. For now I know a lot about what is going but I have no time to translate or say more. Too busy.

Banshaku,

We are glad to hear that you are ok. Our thoughts are with you and your nation. Take care brave sir.

by on (#75555)
Yeah, nice to hear you and your family is safe, although it sounds like despite not loosing anything it seems too have affected you a lot from your tone, I am sorry about this and hope everything gets back on the feet and they get the reactors cooled and fixed. I couldn't even imagine how badly the people in the north of Japan are hurting if you're still affected and you're okay. :( Hope everything turns out okay!

by on (#75562)
Good to hear you are alright man. I hope ya'll don't have anymore trouble.

by on (#75569)
Banshaku,
I'm glad you're ok.
I dunno why,I don't really know you,but still you helped me a lot with my project.
Take care of your family,I wish you all best.

the reactor meltdown possibility is horrible and definitely the last thing japan needs. i have another friend who lives in japan with his wife (she's japanese, he's from here in Texas) who is also okay. i feel for all the people that aren't.

Hope Chris ''ToungeMan'' Covell survives!

*Crosses fingers*

Mr. Covell is alive enough to post this.

How many chest X-rays is one day of Fukushima radiation worth? xkcd has the answer

the US National Cancer Institute has estimated that 29,000 americans will get cancer as a result of the CT scans they received in 2007 alone.

I had no idea that CT scans resulted in cancer. Obviously, if you put someone inside one and nuke 'em for a few days that would not be good. But a single scan resulting in a fraction of a percent chance to get cancer?

(btw, the understandinguncertainty blog is really neat. If you like the documentary 'Freakonomics', I would recommend trying this blog too).

We just got another big earthquake in japan... On Japanese scale it was 6, strong one, 7.4 magnitude. Tsunami are coming but hopefully they will be smaller but still... It's on the news now. I won't sleep well today.

In Tokyo it did shake but not as much as on the 11th.

edit2:

My stress is getting bad these days.

Just came on to wish you well again! Terrible things happening, hopefully it will stop soon and you guys can recover from it! Sorry about all this crap, good thing it seems your family is safe, though.

by on (#76320)
I hope so... I want to be programming on my nes projects again, not focus on missing food and water, nuclear radiations, voluntary electricity blackout and now big earthquakes again.. And I'm not in the north and have to worry about many things..

edit:

If people want's to know who was affected and where by it:

It's a map that show who got it by what.
