I loveee them
definitely my favorite band of all time
I know you guys don't talk about much other than technical and nintendo stuff, but I figure since I could talk about anything here, I would haha
anyone that likes the Beatles, and especially anyone that plays Beatles Rock Band, check out my forum
http://beatlesrockband.proboards.com/
sorry if we're not allowed to post links to other sites like that, but I didn't see it anywhere
discuss how awesome The Beatles are in this thread, and if you get a chance, sign up and talk with us on my forum
I know it's not much since it's a free forum, but it's a lot of fun
Didn't one composer for Nintendo (Koji Kondo or Hip Tanaka or Kazumi Totaka or someone) acknowledge a Beatles influence? I sure hear "Here, There, and Everywhere" in the opening of the DS and Wii versions of Animal Crossing. It gets even more flagrant in some parts of
Earthbound.
I grew up listening to them because my mom was a huge Beatles fan. So yeah, they've got some great stuff.
Actually lately since I've been designing a synthesizer, I have MIDI files (mostly) playable and have had it playing some Beatles stuff, it's been pretty interesting to hear all this stuff in a chiptune style.

Hehe, I did the same with my VSTi synthesizer.
I guess it's easier to find good MIDI renditions of Beatles songs than many others.
I found one of the MP3s:

always hate them XD
my favourite bands Pixies, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins and Tool. i been listening to those bands since 10 years ago and still love them
I think the question you should be asking is: who DOESN'T like The Beatles?
I'm not a big fan...their songs are sometimes just too weird for me (yellow submarines? really?) But they have some good songs.

I don't, particularly. I don't hate them, but I also don't see anything outstanding about them.
The Beatles, Could not forget thier best hits!
They are so good, I can't even lose interest in how a couple members still exists...
Fact: Ringo Starr currently works as the Narrator for Thomas the tank engine. Despite sounding older!

me too. actually their early albums sucks really really hard. with the time they became better, but still... :\

So do I. Their songs aren't bad, but I'm not a big fan either. I guess that back in the 60's it was exceptional as there was a lower variety of styles of music available back then, and it's the first "young guys with long hair" band that was really successful. So yeah back in the 60s that was amazing, my parents were hardcore fans of them, but I'm not.
Personally I feel like they're overrated. Nostalgia probably has something to do with that.
Sure, they influenced a lot of other bands (for better and for worse), and some of their more experimental stuff was pretty good. But it's not like they invented music. Many of their early songs are really quite cheesy (e.g. "She loves you", "I want to hold your hand", "It won't be long").
Lennon seemed like a pretty nice guy though. I'm not so sure about McCartney.
My mom used to play the oldies station pretty heavily when I was a kid, so I heard a lot of 'em, and I didn't like them even back then. Combine that with a music teacher who taught them, and by taught them I mean made us listen to and learn facts about them, for half a school year and I can't really stand 'em.
They were better in their later years, though.
Also, I think a lot of electronic bands have been more influential on popular music, such as kraftwerk.
Yeah, forget their early stuff, lots of that is just pop music suitable for little girls. I don't know what stuff of theirs was commonly on the radio (I generally heard the full albums and seen the movies, since my mom had all of those).
My mom actually had a short correspondence with Yoko Ono. What's weird too is that I was born on Yoko's birthday, and my sister was born on John Lennon's birthday (Feb 18th and Oct 9th - not the same years, obviously).
thefox: That sounds cool! I really like the mix of pulse and FM-sounding instruments, that's something I'm hoping to achieve in my synth eventually. Mine is much more primitive sounding at the moment, partly because it's made to be as CPU-efficient as possible, but more because I haven't put any work into the instruments yet.. But hey, I recorded a tune with it just for this thread:

Do not attempt to listen to the Beatles while wearing headphones.

He did on the British show from 1984 to 1986, and the American show in 1989. He's only made one appearance in relation to Thomas since then.

Funny you should mention that, because I've always heard shades of "Yesterday" in Twoson and Threed.
There's even one song in the game that samples Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band:

Oh, and I think Hip Tanaka said in an interview somewhere that he was inspired by the Beatles. And there's also a well-known anecdote of the time Koji Kondo met Paul McCartney (on an airplane, I think?), and Paul actually knew who Koji was and hummed the SMB theme to him.
And gee guys, if the early Beatles sucked so hard and there was never anything outstanding about them, why are they still the most successful band anywhere in the world, and why is the most covered song in the world "Yesterday"?
Here's a hint: it's more than that they were just cute and were the first ones to do the "long hair thing".

I think this is kind of what generations of gamers younger than ourselves
might say about all those older games that we love. :-)
Nostalgia is a given factor, but some things/products really are that good
despite its age.
I think they're incredibly overrated. Sure, they had a huge impact on things, but the actual music isn't anything I really care for. I'm a pretty big fan of music from that era though, but I tend to lean more towards the 70's with bands like Fleetwood Mac (seriously, don't even talk smack about them or I will kill your face!).
