Title says all.

he, well, I don't know what MRA means in that case but if you say so? ^^;;;

I don't think your post will bring any good, even in general forum. Just relax a little bit, enjoy some snes hacking and have fun. That's why we mostly post on nesdev, isn't it? ;)
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an

I don't normally grill chicken, but it was a nice, brisk 60 degrees outside tonight so I fired up the grill. Burnt the skin a little bit.

Probably "men's rights activist". Any time this subject, or even remotely similar subjects come up, there's always drama involved, and ~90% of the time you can be sure Americans are involved.

More importantly: can I ask what this subject, or whatever it is you're posting about at all, has to do with this forum? Let's not have what happened two years ago repeat itself, or this from earlier this year.
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an

Does anybody here remember that user donknotts from about 10 years ago?
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an
by on (#229998)
@koitsu

That's not something I hear in Japan so the only thing I found was magnetic resonance angiography but I would have been surprised that it would have been used for slur or something like that :lol:

@WedNESday

Maybe it was just before I arrived around 2008 then. I remember barf, if my memory is good. We had many drama along the way :D

As I understand it, men's rights activists (MRAs) believe that feminism has gone so far as to make society prejudiced against men. However, Cracked writers believe that MRAs' concerns are artifacts of feminism not having achieved its goals yet and can be addressed by letting feminism finish.

tl;dr:
5. MRAs complain that men aren't socially allowed to hit women. This is because men on average are twice as strong as women in the upper body, though they're equal in the lower body. (Incidentally, this explains why Tami in The Curse of Possum Hollow specializes in kick attacks and, to a lesser extent, why Lopopn is male.) Similar social taboos apply to children, who are even weaker, except for corporal punishment on the well-padded buttocks. Fix this by buying gym memberships for women.

4. Many domestic violence shelters do not admit or even believe men victims. This is because of limited budgets combined with because the fact that men are in fact the aggressors (in turn because of point 5). To fix it, fund domestic violence treatment more, and continue strength and defense training for women so that women can be taken more seriously in a confrontation.

3. The common myth is that shipwrecks save "women and children first." This isn't the case according to a study, and this myth arose out of the protocol observed on the RMS Titanic as part of propaganda to deny women the vote. To fix it, board airplanes or airships instead of cruise ships, as casualty rates on aircraft do not discriminate.

2. Most occupational casualties are male, 97% of military and 93% of civilians, largely because men choose to take more dangerous jobs. Women are already supporting wounded veterans by volunteering, raising money, and exposing poor hospital conditions. To fix it more, lift more restrictions on women in combat.

1. One of the hottest MRA complaints is that fathers tend to lose custody battles. This has been changing over the years, with more cases going for joint custody than sole (1 parent) custody. To fix it, if you have kids, offer to take care of them more often, and if you don't, offer to babysit.

The fixes for most of these start to sound like more feminism, don't they?

America is so complicated, not that Japan is better in some situation though ^^;;
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an
by on (#230006)
Having been to Japan for a bit during the summer and having known quite alot about it before that, I'm not sure how problems it shares with America outside of that of any other first world country. Unrest generally seems to be lower there, but maybe because everyone is working too many hours to care, lol.
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an

I feel like shooting myself every time people start ranting about their completely unrelated personal problems in a forum about video game programming.

The biggest men's issue I can think of are false rape accusations, but feminists aren't ever going to take this problem seriously. They care more about statistics than the issue itself.

Now that I think about it, I think I know why some conservatives buy guns. So they can commit suicide.

Lots of people have a point. Some don't, even some "human rights" and "environmental" activists. The devil is in the details, and this board isn't the place for such stuff.

EDIT: taking my own advice...

@qalle

Where did you get that list from? Or did you spend hours coming up with all of that by yourself?
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an

Probably somewhere like "MRA (my dis am bigger than yours)" on Wikipedia.
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an

It is ironic to see someone ripping from Wikipedia, but at the same time, very funny...
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an

My $0,02 (so no drama, please!):
I agree with @tokumaru about bringing personal problems here, but just like me, I bet most of the members here could get a big smile in a much needed time thanks to NesDev.

I also agree mostly with @Tepples about feminism. I don't want to bring political or ideological discussion here, but I think that the movement is basically getting demoralized in 2 points:
1- Little or no activism in many countries that not only don't see women as human beings, but as cheap and discardable objects.
2- Hipocrisy, basicly contradicting the roots of the movement when some "friend" is clearly going against it or when some oppositor is just taking a position that the movement has simpathy.

Again, I don't think here is the proper place to discuss this, but if someone feel the need to talk about it with me, I ask that do it by PM or by some social network I'm trying to use again, like twitter.
By the way I'm following some of you guys and see you're doing some very nice work. Thanks for sharing and allow me to know about it. ;-)

You call someone a National Socialist sympathizer, and then you proceed to insult someone else for having a psychiatric disorder, personality disorder, or neurodevelopmental disorder. Back when Usenet was popular, people called this sort of behavior "PKB": the Pot calling the Kettle Black. I would advise you not to make deliberate insults like these if you want to be taken seriously here.

@Koitsu is right!

Although a ban can be benefical to the community, I don't think this can have the same effect on the individual.
In other words, can we give him another chance to not act like a spoiled kid?
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an
by on (#230558)
At the moment, I'm inclined to agree with Fisher. I plan to give qalle a chance to reply, either here or through PM, and take action based on that. Then I expect to split this topic starting at qalle's insults in order to rerail this one back toward men's rights.

Well, my request was for the benefit of nesdev and not qalle himself. Obviously, it's in the admin's hands now.

qalle, are you by any chance the same person as psycopathicteen? The reply you quoted had nothing to do with the account of user name "qalle", but rather "psycopathicteen". Did you forget which account you were using? :D
Anyways, I don't get why you choose to act like this in a forum about NES development of all places. Or maybe that's why? Since this place is lacking in people acting like this, you get all the more attention?
I bet you might be a nice guy IRL and all but I think you're wasting your time here.

Merry christmas and a happy new year! :beer:
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an

I'm not Qalle.

The reason why I made this thread is because I am so fucking tired of people saying "we should blindly beleive all women regardless of evidence" or that false accusations are so "rare" (according to fake statistics) that throwing a bunch of innocent men in jail isn't a problem.

I'm angry because smwc banned me because on smwc's discord, they were talking about how all women should be believed. I told them I disagree. They accused me of being an MRA. I told them I and several people I know have gotten falsely accused in college. They laughed at me for getting accused of rape, and banned me.

I'm only saying this here because I have nowhere else to say it.
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an
by on (#230614)
I'd draw an analogy to when certain people referred to me and all of NESdev as hate group sympathizers nine months ago when I pitched a video game whose enemy side is analogous to that of Bionic Commando and Wolfenstein 3D, then blocked me and anyone else who defended me to talk about me behind my back. I had no one to talk to but other NESdev members.

Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an

well, i can only speak for myself, but i strongly feel like these posts are detrimental to the community, contribute nothing, and lessen my desire to interact with you all.

i honestly don't care that much if you disagree with my beliefs, but i'm not interested in hearing about your politics on an NES forum (and i am a very political person who pretty much grew up arguing about politics online). i've seen plenty of threads here that for some reason get de-railed into shitting on feminism, it's really confusing and i wouldn't be surprised if it contributes to the gender gap that exists on this forum.

there is no reason for threads like this on a retro gaming site and they should be deleted as quickly as they appear. OR i guess we could just have pointless debates that stir bad blood and never get resolved every time somebody has a bad day on the internet and for some reason chooses us to vent at, apropos of nothing and devoid of context.
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an
by on (#230626)
I'd like to add my voice to those who would prefer not to see this type of interaction tolerated here. This is a place for people to share information about a hobby, and it functions best if it is a collaborative and cooperative environment. Posts written with the intent to incite confrontation and antagonism have absolutely no value on a message board like this. It often draws the worst elements of a community to the surface, as can be shown from Qalle's posts. If psycopathicteen really has a point to make about MRAs or whatever, there are forums such as CMV on reddit designed for those types of discussions.
Re: I feel like shooting myself next time anyone calls me an
by on (#230629)
It's some real shit. I have an uncle I never got to meet, who was accused of rape. This prompted an undercover cop to target him for a drug bust setup. He was probably being threatened by a drug supplier involved. He supposedly killed himself. After he was dead, that lady admitted that she lied. Partly due to that lie, my mom lost her brother.

Just dropping a crazy anecdote, please nobody use that to make any kind of point whatsoever. Shit happens to people and I'm sure we can all agree that dishonest people suck. I don't have anything further to say on the subject.

And yeah any topic that relates to gender around here gets real NOPE real fast. We've had at least one person leave after the last time it happened. Like religion and politics, nobody wants to come here and see that. I pretty much quit going to Facebook to get away from that stuff, I can't stand it - it's toxic as fuck.
