Any good sites to get art reviewed?
by on (#189171)
Does anyone know a good community to get art reviewed and critiqued?

I'll tell you straight up, this has been a fantastic forum to share and discuss NES pixel art. The people here know what they are talking about and understand the artistry involved, and I have gotten great feedback.

But this is a forum dedicated to the NES. It's not the kind of place to really show off traditional art, or get feedback on art I'm making for a more modern game. I mean, the folks here are great and I probably could get some good feedback on my other art, but still, I am looking to find a good community focused more on that sort of thing.

Does anyone know of a good place to share and review art?
I can only get so much feedback from sharing things with the same three friends, and their feedback is rather limited because they aren't really *artists* who understand what I'm really working against or working toward.
I can post stuff on Deviant Art, but its so massive that you can't get noticed unless you are already good at it.
Since I am making art for gaming projects, I would imagine that I could find some more general game design boards out there, but I'm not sure where to look. The last one that was really helpful dried up a few years ago (and now the original founder is dying of cancer.)
I know I could do a google search, but I'd take a good personal recommendation over a dozen search results.

I strongly suggest The Artist's Corner subforum of the Penny-Arcade forums. There are a lot of long-standing regulars, many of whom joined in school and now have successful jobs in the field. The tone and mentality there is very much critique-oriented, and they heavily prioritize the posting of work in progress instead of completed pieces. The forums have also taken on a life of their own, independent of the comic, which many posters don't even read.

Thanks!

It's a surprisingly great community for artists. As long as you go in with a "how can I improve?" mentality instead of a "Hey, guys. Check out my art." one, you'll get a warm response and likely tons of useful feedback. They also have a lot educational resources linked as well as challenges and exercises for improvement
