Super Game Boy 2 on PAL, linked with a Game Boy game

What happens if you play a Super Game Boy 2 (the one with the link cable port) on a PAL Super Nintendo and connect it with a Game Boy to play a two player game? How does the system handle the different refresh rates?

Does it even work on PAL though? If the Game Boy hardware runs off its own crystal, which I've been told it does in the the SGB2, it should have absolutely no problems talking to a real Game Boy. But talking to a 50Hz SNES on the other hand... that's the real question! I would guess that if a SGB2 works fine on a PAL SNES with single player games, the link cable should work just fine, but like I said, this is just a guess. I too would like to hear from someone who has personally tested this.

So, the speed of the game is not set by the Super Nintendo, but by the Super Game Boy itself? I.e. even on a PAL SNES, the games would still run at 60 fps (while the SNES part, like screen borders and the "mouse pointer" movement would still be set to the native 50 Hz)?

A Super Game Boy on a PAL SNES runs games at approximately normal Game Boy speed with frameskipping, not at 5/6 speed (I say approximately because the SGB1 runs off the SNES master clock; the SGB2 has its own oscillator which exactly matches the one in a handheld Game Boy). There are at least three versions of the Super Game Boy 1 firmware: the original revision which was only released in Japan, a revision which was released in Japan and North America, and a final revision which was released worldwide. I don't know what the code differences are between the revisions but I would guess that the frameskipping code might not be present or fully functional in the earlier revisions.
