I sent an e-mail to David Crane to talk draw his attention to it, and he had a good response!

I have used never-obsolete's map editting tool for this project. It helped a lot. I wish I could have grabbed the source code to adapt it even further into a Super Pitfall editor, but nonetheless, as it is it was the best tool I could find to edit maps and metatiles on Super Pitfall. Check it out:
