Something that I didn't notice till afterwards was that one of smkdan's posts was edited much later on.
Okay, he could have modified the post. Let's say that without an archive of changes, the debate is hearsay and we should call it a wash, and not judge your character by it. That sounds fair.
Now, if users here and on NA were not even aware of the situation or of a prior online handle that you used, then how does this become a problem worth addressing?
I'm legitimately trying to help by giving you an honest assessment of the situation. This is what I'm seeing:
1) You're tired of people bringing up dragonboy posts.
2) The people bringing up dragonboy posts aren't here.
3) The really upsetting conversation is a thread on NA.
4) Looking at the thread, Aaendi is the one who brought up a dragonboy post in the OP.
5) This thread may have been edited to make dragonboy look bad, and as it stands, does him no favors. dragonboy does seem childish in those posts.
6) After posting the link, Aaendi's comments begin with attacks on smkdan from out of the blue.
7) Making a thread for the purpose of launching a personal attack is likely to seem childish and offensive, and is a bannable offense on most forums.
8) After forum users showed disapproval of the cross-forum flame war, Aaendi resorts to name calling.
9) Thread lock is prompt and deserved.
If you want to correct a reputation, I believe the first step would be learning to see fault in your own actions and correcting them. This goes for you, me, anybody. If we're regarded as behaving a certain way then it's likely because we have behaved that way.
When a certain ghost rolled into town, trying to import drama from other forums, people here collectively pushed that sort of behavior out. The NA thread looks like similar behavior.
My most straightforward advice would be to leave previous drama behind. Most of us didn't know about it, and now that we do, we still don't care. If you talk about games and bring something to the table, that's how people will see you. And in the future, try not to resort to insults because it severely degrades the credibility of your argument.
