Pretty soon, even shared screen multiplayer games are going to be online only...
It's truly like we're going backwards. Games were often originally 1 player, then 2 player, then 4 player, and then back to 1 player. What's even that much better about playing against some random person you can't communicate with rather than a CPU player? I guess they're a little more creative and vary more, but that's about it. All it does for me is add lag to a game to make it impossible.

And this is exactly why I stick to pre-7th generation systems.
I really didn't mind the first half of the 7th generation (about up to 2010). Then things started to spiral downhill to where they are now. I just hope the trend of bullshit (no local multiplayer and often mandatory online, giant American companies having a monopoly and releasing the same shitty game year after year, "early access" garbage, the fact that "season pass" bullshit even exists, etc...) stops at some point, but it really isn't looking too optimistic. I'm just eagerly waiting for the biggest offender, Call of Duty, to kick the bucket. I've had enough of listening to people talk about those damn games. At least no one cares about Halo anymore (as in the newer ones, if you know what I mean. I loved Halo 3.)
It really is sad though, because I got F Zero GX (I got it during Christmas but left it at my father's house but got it back about a week ago) and I've had loads more fun with it than any other game that's came out in the last 5 years, (save Splatoon, although it's a very flawed game.) It's a shame that Nintendo has been neglecting, what is now apparent to me, one of their best franchises. Damn though, what a difficult game. Chapter 5 tunnel on very hard was absolutely brutal. (I actually got out in over 40 seconds, because it counts 0 as a second so I got out in almost 41 and all I did was barely knick one wall). That's actually another problem I forgot to add about modern games: there really aren't hard enough. Even if they are hard, it really doesn't feel like you can ever get good at them because the skill ceiling is so low, it's really just luck then, or whoever bought the DLC weapons.
Wow, I got off topic. It's unlikely we would have gone anywhere with the original discussion anyway unless people wanted to discuss their horror with those people.
