Some eBay users use "sniping" services to raise their maximum bid at the last minute in order not to disclose too much information about their individual demand for a product.
Well, I guess in hindsight, It's a bit silly to get something that I've beaten 100+ times, and without even taking a hit (I've memorized the location of everything), but the novelty of it, and if I get serious about Irem M92 development, I can (somehow) test whatever I make on actual hardware. I suppose you could get a lousy pirated game and just replace the rom chips? (much easier said than done though...) It wasn't that expensive to start out either. Damn though, if I'm not willing to pay that much for Gunforce II, I didn't think anyone would be. It's probably some arcade collector who's got a bunch of money.
Well, at least this is good (unrelated) news:

Nintendo’s Splatoon earned surprise victories in two categories at this year’s show, winning 2015’s “Best Multiplayer Game” and “Best Shooter” awards. Nintendo’s territory-grabbing shooter faced tough competition, but was ultimately victorious over genre favorites like Halo 5, Destiny, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Star Wars Battlefront.
That's almost as unexpected as that $265 bid...
