Barf, it looks like they've just quantized 3D models into voxels and called it pixels.
I always hate it whenever there's a movie about video games. I don't know why, it just feels like somebody took a dump on the doorstep of a church. (I don't get it either.) I guess it's like they are trying to understand something they don't? I really don't know, but I just hate it. A lot of video game movies are also just mediocre, which kind of makes me think negatively about anything that's in the movie, so it's like they soiled the video games in the movie I guess. I guess one other problem is that literally the only thing going for most of these movies is that there are licensed franchises in them, so they don't even attempt to do anything else.
I just don't like it.
(By the way, the Futurama episode seemed funnier.)
I was wondering what the explanation for the invasion would be... it's good that this explanation was the first thing in the trailer! The trailer didn't show anything particularly cool or funny, but it still looks interesting, I'll probably check it out.
BTW, what the hell does "UNLOCK LADY LISA at DOJOQUEST.COM" mean (shown quickly at 1:38)?
I think that is answered pretty easily by going to:
http://dojoquest.comi.e. some promotional flash game for the movie.
How did Sony, the parent company of PlayStation which is in direct competition with Nintendo, get the rights to Donkey Kong, a Nintendo franchise?
Did anyone else get a "Super Space Invaders 91" vibe from the plot?

If you listen carefully, Adam Sandler said "Dahnkey Kahng", not "Donkey Kong", a different franchise. The likeness of the two apes is coincidental, and the appearance of the game footage earlier in the trailer is unrelated fair use.

Possibly related to
this?
It's still too close, let's not be dumb.
Remember Sony is split into different companies (the movies division is not the same as the games division) and that this is a movie, not a game, i.e. it won't be direct competition for Nintendo (or any at all, for that matter). It isn't that hard to imagine how Sony would be able to get permission, really.

It is a joke. Of course Donkey Kong is a licensed appearance in the film.

(Off course, this was before the PlayStation.)
