Found via Slashdot: DisplayPort 1.2a adds "adaptive sync", which eases the restriction that all vertical blanking periods must be equal in length. This should help upscaling on NES and Super NES, which are known to have an uneven (by 1 dot) vblank. It's a standardized counterpart to NVIDIA's G-Sync.
