MAGFest panel approved!
by on (#121410)
I've gotten approval for a panel on NES homebrew game development at the upcoming MAGFest. The biggest challenge in assembling a presentation like this is just how to constrain the scope of it. I think what I will do is to give a very brief introduction to what it is, why one would want to make an NES hombrew game as opposed to simply building an 8 bit retro styled game, and then an overview of available tools, learning resources, notable games, and my own personal experiences.

Finally, I am thinking of having a "workshop portion" where I put together an extremely simple game in C just to help illustrate to the audience that getting started is not that bad.

I was curious if anyone here had any thoughts or input on what I might include in such a panel. If you'd like your game to be shown, or if you're going to be there yourself, let me know.

Two things you get with an NES game as opposed to a low-def PC game are a smaller download and (for people who use an authentic NES and a CRT SDTV) less video and audio latency.
