I thought this would be an interesting (and somewhat useful) topic to cover not only for anyone wanting to replicate SMB physics for potential homebrews or romhacks, but also for fangames (in my case) or any game in general.
What I'd like to pin down are the very basic numbers. ie. How many pixels does Mario Jump standing still? Running at full speed? How many pixels does he move when walking? Running? How many pixels does he bounce after landing on an enemy? What's his rate of falling? What's his rate of speeding up? Slowing down?
That sort of thing.
I could try to guess these physics as best I can until it feels right, but I think a fangame could value from being as precise as possible. What do you all think?
