Dirty headers
by on (#91965)
I'm currently cataloguing the various ASCII junk injected into ROM headers and trying to locate their person/utility of origin. So far I have:

- DiskDude! (NES Image)
- NI 1.3 (NES Image)
- NI 2.1 (NES Image)
- aster (Aster utility)
- Ni0330, or 4e 69 30 33 33 30 (???)
- MJR (???)
- DisNi0330 (???)
- GitM-DX (???)

Anyone recall the origins of those with question marks? And can anyone point me toward a location where I might download Aster (or just find more info about it)? And if you've seen other common ASCII pop up, let me know.

I've seen "vimm.net" a few times.

According to neshdr20.txt by VmprHntrD, "DiskDude!" comes from the NESimage converter.

I imagine GitM would be "Ghost in the Machine". It was a group that would release packs of ROMs, back when most carts had not been dumped yet. Couple references to it (no working links exist anymore, obviously):
