Last year I was starting this project, just to see if it was possible. Coding a NES emulator in .NET using C# and DirectX. Obviously others had done it but I wanted to try myself. Earlier I've coded "A/NES" on AmigaOS but it's obviously something entirely different coding in 680x0 assembly language on a 50MHz CPU compared to C# on a multicore Windows PC.
The NES has fascinated me since the 80's since me and my brother got one! My emulatorinterest was discovered when Nesticle was released back in the days (I actually used a PC emulator on my old Amiga to be able to run Nesticle).
Anyway, my goal with this project is to make a NES emulator I like. There are soo many skilled people out there coding NES-emulators that are simply awesome in terms of compability and features. However I think some of them might lack in other areas. I simply want to do it my way and I also want to focus on the retro-experience a bit more than other emulators do it.
It's a pretty huge task for me, and it's simply madness! And that's what I'm naming my emulator:
MadNESs!
A download link will follow in a few days, so stay tuned if you're interested. I'm currently in somekind of alpha-state but I need to get something released instead of adding more and more stuff.
Until then, feel free to check out my screenshots.
EDIT: Uploaded the first alpha-version to my website: http://madness.goondocks.se
