I love how MMC1 games are organized so inefficiently than hackers can add support for more characters just by using a different mapper.

Are you referring to the 4K CHR ROM pages used in SLROM (MMC1 + CHR ROM) games like Chip 'n Dale and Chip 'n Dale 2? I wonder how hard it'd be to make SGROM (MMC1 + CHR RAM) hacks for a lot of these SLROM games to make the characters as configurable as the character in Cocoron.

On that note, I seem to remember a total conversion of Monster Party that took advantage of the fact that the player character's frames are repeated in each stage's sprite bank in order to give each part of the story a different player character.
