Codemasters carts
by on (#159953)
Hi all,

1st post so Hi to begin!

My main collection I have is arcade machines and pinballs, I also do collect consoles and computers and I'm getting more into it. As I repair my own arcade pcbs, etc I've started messing with carts now as I have a programmer, etc. I seem to be in a phase where I just like to try to get something work on what it probably shouldn't and Codemasters stuff I find interesting as they basically made their own hack and by what I can find it was based on mapper 2. So my question is is it possible to get a Codemasters rom to run on a Nintendo cart? I just want to see if its possible. Obviously I'm new here and I don't sell stuff on I just like to make something rubbish into something good. One example arcade wise is turning Major Title (golf game) into r-type.... now who wouldn't lol

TIA for any help or pointers and if anyone needs any help with arcade pcbs, etc I may know :)

Regards

Ben

If the game is mapper 2 (UNROM) it is working on regular Nintendo cartridges that uses the same mapper.

What game are we talking about though?

This is as far as I understand (If I'm ready correctly) That they modified mapper 2?

Oh and the game is Dizzy

Thanks for your reply

Already made a repro of Dizzy on UNROM. Worked great.

Is there a guide then as I'd love to try am I right in thinking a mapper 2 cart is correct?

I thought a Blades of Steel cart would do it but I must have gone wrong somewhere then?

No real guide.

Desolder the PRG ROM on the right side of the board.

Burn you EPROM with the Codemasters game on it.

Wire accordingly:

UNROM (mapper 2):
Bend up pin 24
Solder pin 24 to GND (OE)

UNROM 32 Pin EPROM (mapper 2):
Bend up pin 1, 2, 24, 31 and 32
Solder pin 2 to hole 22 (A16)
Solder pin 24 to GND (OE)
Solder pin 30 to hole 28 (+5V) <- only for 27c020 and 27c040 otherwise NC
Solder pin 32 to hole 28 (+5V)

Hopefully will get chance this weekend.
