256kb PRG Maskrom has no /OE (A16??)?
by on (#154956)
Hey!
Doing a repro of little samson (jap ver) on a HVC-TLROM-04 Board, and think I got all right exept the PRG.. I am using a 27C010 for CHR and 27C2001 for the PRG.

Where should I connect pin 24 on the 27C2001? And where should HOLE 24 go to? hole 2 and 24 are not connected together on this pcb.

Please see the attached document to see why I am confused by the absence of /OE and 2x /CE.

And even thou several guides online says that you can leave these ones floating, I know that I shouldnt.. However should:

27C010 pin1 (VPP) should be VCC or GND?
27C010 pin31 (/PGM) should be VCC or GND?

27C2001 pin1 (VPP) should be VCC or GND?
27C2001 pin31 (/P)should be VCC or GND?

This is how I have connected the rest as of now:

PRG (27C2001)

PIN 1 -> ?
PIN 2 -> HOLE 24
PIN 24 -> PIN 16
PIN 30 -> HOLE 1
PIN 31 -> ?
(Also I have HOLE 2 -> PIN 22 but didnt test it yet.. only did that because I read that 2 and 22 should be connected together on the pcb... both /CE??)

CHR (27C010)

PIN 1 -> ?
PIN 2 -> HOLE 24
PIN 22 -> HOLE 31
PIN 24 -> HOLE 2
PIN 31 -> ?

Thanks for your time!

Almost all NES PRG ROMs only receive a single /enable from whatever source. Either that signal is just the plain /ROMSEL from the NES CPU mainboard, or it's one from the mapper that only enables the PRG ROM during reads.

For power consumption, you can tie both inputs together, or tie the ROM's /OE to ground. If you happen to get your hands on a really old ROM that's slower than 350ns, then you could instead tie /CE to ground and connect the /enable to the /OE pin.

Thanks for the inputs! Any thoughts about the unconnected pins? I would like to tie them high or low, but aint sure wich is appropriate :/

I only get a solid gray/white picture as it is now :/.. have no idea what could be wrong
