I thought i was done with questions but this one def boggles my mind. Trying to make a Snow Bros repro. Got a board even with a MMC1B3 mapper. Chips burned fine, everything soldered in perfect, wires too, cart clean as a whistle. Nothing? I've done about 30 games for myself now and I can't figure this one out. I ended up taking the chips out just to even see if I brain farted and switched the PRG and CHR but they verified.
I did find some sort of problem with someone else making a Snow Bros but I thought it had to do with how it was emulated.
Try tepples's
SxROM self-test?
Or maybe try some random NROM-128 game in it?
Hacks are designed around emulators. It really shouldn't be surprising when they don't work on real hardware. If you've got the cart wired perfectly then it must not work on real hardware.
inl, did you mean to post somewhere else?
Snow Brothers isn't a romhack...
It's a hack if you've replaced the player characters with characters from PiX Bros.
But I second lidnariq's recommendation to try reproducing the test ROM on your SxROM board first.
Oh my bad, I thought we were talking about
this.
Im using a donor of Hook, not a self made or INL board. Sorry should have posted that info first. I can only think of it as some kind of mapper version incompatibility (even tho they're identical).
This is a bit too heady for me right now but I thought it might have to do with this:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6522&hilit=snow+bros
bumping this.
I took apart the game, and in order of troubleshooting I soldered the connections better, then I took it apart and re-wired it, then I took the chips off the board and I didn't switch the PRG or CHR AND I even re-verified em against their bin files and they were good.
This is TOTALLY boggling my mind. Im thinking it HAS to do with the mapper, even tho the mappers were identical (MMC1B3)
Until you test with something other than Snow Brothers we can't help.
Im just assuming that if anyone else has made one the same way with no problems its just the board. I was just interested if anyone else had any of the same problems because its something in the programming. If anyone here made one for themselves the same way without any problems i'd just try again from scratch.
Works fine for me, but I'm using new parts. I don't think there is anything special about it.
