Hi everyone !

I'm so happy to announce the launch of the Twin Dragons Kickstarter campaign !

You can now support the project and help us release another homebrew for the NES.

The game looks outstanding and you are an amazing programmer!

[edit]

Okay I finally got a change to play the demo. Here are my notes and thoughts.

- On the title screen only the select button can scroll down the menu options and the buttons B and A do not function. This should most likely be changed. The up and down arrows should also scroll through the menu options and the B and A buttons should work the same as the start button for confirming things.

- Why not add a charge shot fireball as an additional weapon? A fireball that when charged (B button held down) for a few seconds that is more powerful and can go through several enemies before dissipating.

- When you die you go to a continue screen. Yes, is on the left and No is one the right, however if you press left or right on the D-pad it does nothing. So the left and right buttons probably should be implemented here instead of just using select to choose your option. Also B and A do not confirm your option, this should probably be implemented too.

- The first boss that you fight that looks like a stacked green ball cactus. If you beat the boss, but then get killed by the falling into the water the game freezes with a black screen.

- I love the intro level screens. Reminds me of the Sonic 1,2 games.

- Had no idea that pressing UP + B shoots the special item fireball. Maybe state this somewhere so players know.

- Music and graphics are outstanding.

This was a long debate between me and my friend who made the music :)
But I agree with you, and it should be changed for the full version.

I don't think I'll change the game mechanics too much now. But thanks for the idea.

Weird, I'll check that.

I had some remarks about UP+B or DOWN+A, I may add a mini in-game tutorial to explain it clearly.

Again, thanks :)

WOW. This is insane !

The campaign has been launched only 4 days ago, and we're now over 75% of our goal !

I would not have imagined it could go that fast.

Thanks to everyone who supported the project so far !
Re: Twin Dragons Kickstarter !
by on (#195209)
OK, so I know that I'm gonna sound like a broken record, but reaching our goal in 5 days is incredible, and I have to thank you one more time !

As soon as I'll get back home and get some sleep, I'll let you know about the next step, because we do have surprises for you to go even further.

Once again, THANKS to all of you !

That's awesome! That didn't take long, congrats.

Congratulations, you deserve the success!

Curious as to the relative scale of the intended final product compared to what's already created, since I didn't see it already.

It's an odd feeling, hearing a language and understanding it after a while of nonexposure.

Re: Twin Dragons Kickstarter !

He wants to know how many levels, how many bosses, etc in the final game.
Re: Twin Dragons Kickstarter !
by on (#195405)
Oh ok !

Here's what the FAQ says about it : "Nothing is set in stone yet, but for now we'd like the game to have 7 worlds with 2 levels per worlds (so 14 levels total), and 1 boss per world. Because the DEMO had some constraints due to the NESdev competition, levels were quite short. Therefore they should be longer in the final version of the game."

Our first stretch goal has been reached ! And we've just introduced the next one !
Who's in for an exclusive mini-game in addition to the regular game ?!

Re: Twin Dragons Kickstarter !

Congratulations on the funding, and luck to the stretch goals. I wish my financial institution was more friendly to the payment setup of non US kickstarter projects, I hope I'll be able to back this.

Second stretch goal reached last night !
Now if you liked the soundtrack of the game, here's a chance to get it on a CD !

I see 4 people + a camera person. That's quite a big team

The hill/treetops level looks lovely! The sea felt a bit empty compared to earlier stages, but it said 'preview' so... :)

One thing that confused me was the subpalette choice for the squid/jellyfish. To me it could be either enemy-looking background or background-looking enemy. A highlight colour or a different subpalette would help.

Btw, i completely missed the KS. Will there be a way to prebook a copy outside the campaign?
Re: Twin Dragons Kickstarter !
by on (#202018)
We're "only" 3, the person holding the camera is my girlfriend, and the person playing is her nephew who absolutely wanted to test the game, but they don't work on it :)

Yeah, the tilesets are not the final ones and may change, as well as the levels. Those were made mainly for testing purpose.

Are you talking about the blue squid (they're also available in orange, green and red ;) ? Yeah the blue is kind of tricky on the blue background, but we thought it could be a simple way to make some piece of levels harder. Again, nothing is set in stone !

There will be an online shop on our website to order the game but I haven't taken care of it until now. If you really want to pre-order now, shoot me a message and I'll tell you what to do.
Re: Twin Dragons Kickstarter !
by on (#202019)
Yeah, that's the one! I feel reserved. I suspect/am afraid it might be the wrong kind of hard to attempt a trick on the player, and besides, it's a one timer. Once you know, you know. :/ Everything else looked very nice to me, though!

<suggestion>
Maybe this can serve as a moodboard picture for the far background:
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/or ... d9e604.jpg

Just imagine it a lot more simplified, stylized and posterized. ;) It could really be as simple as a mid-toned band in the middle, and a brighter band above and below, to provide that sense of undersea vastness/depth.
</suggestion>

Oh, if you're setting up shop sometime, i can wait until then. Don't want to bother you when there's going to be a general solution! Many thanks.

Hi everyone,

We recently discovered that we have had a problem on a batch of Twin Dragons copies.

While Kickstarter backers shouldn't be impacted, you may want to check your cart and / or warn your friends who have bought the game after the campaign, on our shop.

- How to check if you're concerned :

If you have 4 health points / small hearts in your energy bar in the top left corner in NORMAL difficulty mode, then you're concerned.

- What to do if it's the case :

If you're concerned, first send me an email, with a screenshot / photo of the first password you get, and I'll let you know what the next steps are.

We're very sorry about it and hope that it won't impact too many of you.

Thanks for reading, we hope you like the game anyway, and we'll do our best to resolve this problem as quick as we can.

Hi !

Is there anyone here playing Twin Dragons using an AV Famicom ?
If that's the case, is the game working fine ?
Re: Twin Dragons Kickstarter !
by on (#219083)
I assume this game has nothing to do with a similarly titled Jackie Chan movie, unlike Kung Fu.
Re: Twin Dragons Kickstarter !

Very funny movie, specially if you watch it in Cantonese (with subs)
