Hey Guys:

Thanks to a bunch of people here that were nice enough to answer my (many) questions, I just finished my first NES game. (I am normally an Atari 7800 developer, but I wanted to move one of my ports from the 7800 to the NES).

When I was doing the 7800 version, I was lucky enough to have had help from Alan McNeil himself.

Here is the demo video: https://youtu.be/cb2QKKVio3Q
Hope you like it!

Bob

I get an error, video marked 'private'. Can't see it.

Oops - my apologies... forgot to publish it.
It's OK now.

Thanks!

This looks really neat! Any chance we will see a ROM to play it?

It does have that Atari feeling. That's neat!

Thanks guys!

No ROM yet... I'm trying a few things; one of which is releasing this as a fully licensed port. I just hope I hear back.

Thanks,
Bob

only five sentences
Do you store them as sentences? I thought the original assembled them from phrases and words; could that get you the rest of what was said, since you seem to have most of the words in place? I'm curious how tight on [N]ROM you are. You could always go and be the first[?] to make a NROM-368 game, to get some extra space, if you wanted to more-completely fill out robot speech in another version before or after you go to production.

Unfortunately, I can't. I was not given permission to release it. :(

Can you at least make video available? :)

I will make a video, as I need to show it to someone 'with influence' soon anyway.

BTW, my port has two player simultaneous (as well as alternating) gameplay.

I was going to store them as separate words, but if memory serves me well, I couldn't find a way to tell once a sample has finished playing. So that stops me from doing it that way, as I wouldn't know when to start the next word.

EDIT - Unfortunately, I just thought of something; a table of frames. Keep a table of how many frames it takes to 'say' each word. Count down the number of frames, and when it gets to zero, start the next word. Damn. I have too much on my plate to revisit that now. Why couldn't I have thought about that then?

Ok, here's the video:

I have a feeling you might be seeing this soon... in miniaturized form. ;)

Hi guys:

Ok, this was why I couldn't post the ROM for the NES version. It's actually licensed.
This version I converted from my Atari 7800 port, which I did about 6 years ago with guidance from Alan McNeil (the person who developed the arcade game).
The only main difference between the two is on the NES version when playing two-player simultaneous, the first player to exit the room ends the room for both players. (In the 7800 version, *both* players have to exit the room to move on).
