That's pretty good! If the music fits in the AVR, then that really could be the smallest and most inexpensive NES music player.
I've thought about making an NSF player on a microcontroller, but it would require emulating the CPU and a way to load NSFs. My friend kevtris emulated a 1Mhz 6502 with a PIC (and external memory) for his portable SID player (C64 soundchip). I'd hope to use one chip to do almost all of it though (if I get a 6502 emu going for this Parallax Propeller MCU, maybe..).
