emails and verification
by on (#2628)
I've noticed that a pretty significant amount of people have had trouble registering. Like their confirmation email (which is required to setup an account) just doesn't make it out or something. Even when the email address given is valid, as I've seen in a couple cases.

I've just been enabling some accounts manually when the person registering brings it to my attention.

So can anyone who's registered on the forum recently let me know if it worked? I'm wondering if it's broke for everyone, or just some kind of random weirdness. It's actually been happening for a while, a few months at least.

In the meantime, if anyone who registered didn't get their verification email, post the username you registered in this thread and I'll send your password to the email address that was specified in the account.

It might be going into "junk mail" filters that pick up on spammers who imitate the standard phpBB confirmation message. Rewrite the text of the confirmation message in your own words, and it will more easily pass through content-based filters.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'll try that.

I remember seeing something related to this in our logs, but sadly I can't remember what it was...
