(it's plaintext)
There might be other Verilog extensions out there (.vh?) but I'm out of practice.
Might as well add .vhd and .vhdl also.
.vhd is probably not a wise idea. Is there some reason you folks can't just .zip these things? If so, what is the reason?
It's nice for the uploader not to have to zip a single file, and it's nice for the downloader to not have to unzip a single file, as well as be able to see at a glance what kind of file it is without having to read some kind of meta-text explaining it.
(And why would "virtual hard drives" be a problem? Nobody's going to upload one, and there's a file size limit anyway.)
Okay, so the reason is convenience. Fair enough. I'd forgotten about the filesize limit -- thanks for reminding me. Yeah, tepples or Memblers should be able to add .v/.vhd/.vhdl to the extensions list.
Fewer steps is the only reason, really…and that we do allow .s and .asm, so it would be consonant with that policy.
It is done.
Looking through the allowed extensions is kind of a blast from the past. .rm, RealMedia, haven't seen that for a while. And .diz, like file_id.diz? Woah.
Many of those come with phpBB by default, and weren't added by myself or tepples. :-)
Also just an administrative reminder: any time I'd add an extension, I would always edit
this sticky post in General Stuff to indicate that something had been changed/improved, along with (if applicable) a link to the thread where it was requested or decided.
That exists? I was looking
at this instead. (Though, I did attempt and get a rejection from phpBB before requesting.)
(It's also mildly amusing that it went through, now that I've written two more and archiving is more important.)
