Interesting that it can backup cartridges. Other than that it doesn't seem to do anything different. Price seems alright if the product lives up to what it says. Looks sharp.

sd2snes or Everdrive? It must be derived from one.

by on (#90288)
I suspect that too but it is too early to tell. I suspect EverDrive.

by on (#90289)
I suspect it's nowhere close to SD2SNES and probably even worse than the everdrive as it probably doesn't support any external processors unless your cart has the external chips. Not that that's terrible, but you still need to dig for carts and crap.

Im guessing its an updated and miniaturised Super UFO Pro, if you check the video and compare it to video's of the 90's copier device they have the same bios, this new gadget looking like v9.* and the 90's copiers the last bios update I found from 2003 was v8.8*. It appears to do the same thing.

It does seem like they cloned the Super UFO and added/changed to SD card file access. That's alright. Too bad it isn't a bit cheaper though.

Well it is 1/2 the price of the basic SD2SNES and roughly 2/3 the price of the PowerPak and you get a copier, a retrode is the same price, is it really that expensive.

by on (#90366)
It's not that it is expensive. It's slightly cheaper than the SNES EverDrive, actually it's probably still the cheapest modern style flash cart. It's just a shame that if it were just a bit cheaper I think it would be an even better deal. Also the 32M limit is kind of a downer I guess for the few games that could use more. But I guess overall, it isn't bad. Fairly good deal atleast from the look of things.

It looks pretty cool. It is a miniaturized copier. Instead of a floppy it uses SD, and instead of a parallel port it uses a USB port. Looking at the manual, it definitely seems to be a re-hash of a copier:

I wish it had the FPGA of the sd2snes because the sd2snes will be the best cart for game compatibility, but the sd2snes will lack two features that this Super UFO cart will have: backup existing carts and USB-to-PC link.

I'll probably pick this up, and I will definitely get an sd2snes. I mean, I am still playing the same console for the past 20 years... why wimp out now.

So many nice features. Guess this will replace my swc dx2, and the sd2snes will replace my powerpak. I wish FFE would make somthing similar :)

Im curious, since this copier will allow to use special chips if you have the correct carts, is it possible to make a snes cart containing all the special chips and a dip switch of some sort so you can choose chip? I know I would need to desolder and destroy some cart's, but that would be great.
If anyone is up for it I could at least order some boards, but I guess that's not somthing people wan't to do considering the sd2snes is on it's way.

This is a mistake or translation error. You CAN'T play special chip games as ROMS on this device. It merely tells you that you can play these games through the device. The way the chips like Super FX are designed it is impossible to do what can be done with DSP1 where you just plug in a cartridge on some copiers. This never will change, ever. If you want to play these games buy them or hope SD2SNES will support them.

Damn, that sucked.... Misleading sales pitch I guess

Again, the sd2snes will be the best for game compatibility, but this Super UFO will be neat to have for the copier features and SNES to PC link features.

Yup. Waiting eagerly for the sd2snes.

Tip: Me and a friend have already bought the Super Ufo Pro 8 from Tototek. They seem to have the best price, and cheapest shipping. They even include one of their CIC adapters.

Wonder if the DSP1 games works with a cart on top. Though, getting rid of floppies and my old huge copier is the main reason I bought it. I just like to be able to do everything with my old game consoles :P

I'm curious to know if this will play some of the BS games that are out there, I spent all of last night trying to Header hack F-Zero 2 and BS-X Shooting to work on my power pack with no luck. I was regretting selling my Super Flash last night.

by on (#91348)
Maybe someone could ask BunnyBoy for an update to allow some Force Loading options. To for various Cart/ROM/RAM mappings.

by on (#91360)
That would be nice. Would open up a lot of access to hacked and unlicensed games, and possibly a majority of BS titles.

I got my Super UFO Pro 8 flash cart this week. It is smaller than the Super Power Pak. The build quality seems good, but is difficult to get to work. I first tried using it with my FC-16 Go and SanDisk 512MB SD flash card. The cart booted and showed a nice graphical copier-like menu with music. However, it was unable to read the SD card, which is was formatted FAT16. So I reformatted the SD card using the FAT32 format, and the Super UFO Pro 8 flash cart was able to read the SD card. However, once it finished loading the game into DRAM, it would display an error "No Game in DRAM". I was only able to get Super Mario World to load from my SD card by putting the Super UFO Pro 8 into "Hyper" mode as opposed to "Normal" mode.

I then tried it out on my real SNES. The cart wouldn't boot without another cart plugged in on top, indicating that the Super UFO Pro 8 cart does not have a built-in lockout chip. The only cart that I do not have in storage is Super Mario RPG, so using it as a passthrough cart was problematic, probably due to Super Mario RPG's overly paranoid anti-piracy electronics.

I'll reserve final judgement until I get my other SNES carts out of storage and see if the Super UFO Pro 8 is able to boot reliably on a real SNES. However, it boots around 1% of the time right now on a real SNES when using Super Mario RPG as the pass through cart. Not fun.

The Super PowerPak is a bit finicky about the CF card that you use, but once you get a CF card that works, the Super PowerPak is very reliable. Has anybody else experienced issues getting the Super UFO Pro 8 to boot on a real SNES? Do games fail to play in "Normal" non-cheat mode?

by on (#91446)
It should have a built in lockout chip. But maybe it doesn't match your region? From what I've seen it doesn't seem like a "great" product but it could be ok. Seems like people have some troubles with it. But if it's working for you, it's not bad, and it's a bit cheaper than other flash carts. Really if any problems are worked out and you get a good price it could be a nice deal. But I still like my SNES PowerPAK. The only way I'd stop using it would be if I buy the SD2SNES.

The SuperUFO has build in mult-region CIC chip, it can run on any regional SNES/SFC console. It has build in function to check the buildin DRAM and SRAM, user can go to the CHECK menu and select the DRAM CHECK, SRAM CHECK and ROM CHECK to see the SuperUFO buildin memory work ok or not.
