Help importing .TPL palettes into Tile Layer Pro
by on (#72349)
Gentlemen,

I was (well, stil I am) really atonished when I discovered the marvelous Tile Layer Pro. I really wanted to make some simple graphic hacks on my favorite games, like Final Fight, Super Adventure Island and few others, however...

I did follow this tutorial (simple and easy):
http://digisalt.net/digisalt30.php?site ... =en&part=0

And I did generated the palette.tpl successful, just like the author did - however, when I try to import the .tpl back on the original ROM, nothing changes, nothing happens. Looks like the file is completely ignored. No errors, no color palette changes, "nada" at all!

I really don't know how to fix this.

1 - Inside Tile Layer Pro I do edit one selected tile inside the original ROM like instructed on the tutorial
2 - I do save and run the rom
3 - I see perfectly the edited tile on the emulator
4 - I do capture a screenshot, send to Photoshop, crop it to the exact tile size (8x8) and save as a 24bpp bitmap - windows.
5 - Then I run the - snespalfind.exe - tool that search for the palette adress inside the ROM
6 - The tool finds the memory address where the palette is located and saves on a log
7 - I do run the second tool - snespalex.exe - that extracts the palette from the given address (obtained below) and generates the .TPL file
8 - I close everything and go return to Tile Layer Pro. I open the original ROM (not the one edited to find the palette) and I import the generated .TPL file
9 - Nothing, absolutely nothing happens!!

Reading the documentation, I did learn that Tile Layer Pro opens a .TPL palette automatically if it is named accordingly to the rom's name. So I did that and tried to open the rom again.

This time I got a result - black, all, full, complete black palette. No colors added. It looks like my palette .TPL is empty...

Does anyone have any advice for me?
Where am I doing a mistake?

PS. And yes, I tried to at least five different SNES rom games!

Thanks guys,
Looking forward to any light!
