so i tried to put the zelda outlands hack on a SNROM board but the game only powers up to the title with music and as soon as you press start, it freezes up. i followed the wiring instructions exactly. should i have desoldered the CHR ROM?
1. An SNROM board does not have CHR ROM - it has CHR RAM, which is what you need. Perhaps you did not burn the PRG ROM correctly.
2. Make sure your SNROM has 8KB of PRG RAM on it (next to the PRG ROM) and a battery (which may or may not be present).
3. It is possible that said hack was made to work in a low quality emulator (such as nesticle) and, as a result, does not work correctly on a real NES.
hmmm. i used Nes Open Golf, which has the 8kb CHR RAM and heres where i got the rom:

i have no clue how to tell if it is a bad rom. meanwhile ill check the connections again. i used stranded wire, maybe some wernt connected solidly. i have thanks
