Hi guys,
I am in a bind and could really use some help. I have dumped some EProms and want to combine them using my CopyNES, but I'm having some serious issues. When I click on "Make .nes", I'm prompted to select a .prg file, but I'm never asked what .chr I would like to combine it with, it just skips to "Select Mapper". What am I doing wrong? Is there an easier way for a newbie to combine files? Thanks!!!
Not all mappers even have CHR files.
Ok...
But I have Eproms that are labeled .chr and .prg, so that doesn't apply here. Do you think you could help me out?
Identify the board type (NES-TKROM for example), and with that the mapper #. Then I imagine it will ask for the CHR file.

Doesn't seem to work. For example, I have a Blues Brother's proto that I dumped previously and it is an UNROM game (mapper 2). When I try to combine the .prg and .chr from that game using mapper 2, it STILL only asks me for the .prg, which produces a non-working (obviously) .nes file.
What other avenues can I go through to combine files easily? Any fool proof (or newbie proof) ways to join them?
UNROM is CHR RAM, so there is no CHR file to combine.
The other way is to start with a .nes file, and only keep the first 16 bytes. Then paste in your PRG followed by your CHR. Use an app like Nintendulator which has a iNES header editor. There you can enter in the correct values for mapper and prg/chr sizes.
Yeah, Blues Brothers doesn't have a CHR chip.
Well I came into a lot of several unreleased games the other day, many of which were just chips that needed to be joined. I sent them to my friend Zzap! as I couldn't manage to get the joining tool to work on my CopyNES.
It would be nice to know in the future though, I'll have to keep messing around with it.
Bumping this up because I figured out what I was doing wrong and it may help others avoid the same mistake.
I was putting my .prg files and .chr files in their corresponding folders in the CopyNES directory. In order to combine a .chr with a .prg file, they need to not only be named the same thing, but also located in the same folder. If not, you end up getting a shit .nes file.
Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it!
