Well im sure this idea has been done before but oh well. Now I wanna make a cable that plugs into an nes cartridge and connect to pc. Ten be able to easily dump a game, or write games to cartridges. Now it is only plausable for I a( only know a tad into nes hardware b( I only know little in electronics so I need help.
I can think of a couple projects that do that, including CopyNES (which may be built again, now's the best time to request one if you want). If that does exactly what you want already, it'd be much easier to get one of those.
But if you're in it for the journey (learning about NES and building hardware), give me an idea of what you know about electronics, NES carts, and your plan so far, and I'll try to help you get on the right track if I can.
Well Mumblers I kinda would wanna just for now try projects already done and build or buy them. Normally build thought. I can do that electronic stuff like I make alotta stuff. Its the code really tha scares me. But any help you could give on books, projects, or anything would be greatly appreciated.
Here's the CopyNES site, in case you haven't seen it:
http://www.tripoint.org/kevtris/Projects/copynes/index.html
The software would be kinda daunting, because of all the variations of hardware the carts used. But luckily kevtris has written plugins for CopyNES that work with virtually all of them. You just have to know (or guess) what hardware it is, and pick the right plugin.
Normally kevtris was installing this mod for people on their NES. I don't know for sure, but I'd bet that he'd be interested in selling it as a kit (whenever more PCBs get made).
There's also a schematic for it on the site, but it only shows the main parts.
Ya Ive seen that one it looks bit too big to take on but I think Ill try. I also saw your Squeedo it was pretty cool.
Also where do you get these custom made PCBs?
Thanks. I have my boards made by
http://www.myropcb.com/, in China. Costs about $83 for some prototype PCBs of your own design. There's many other places to choose from too, I use them because the quality is great for the price.
I have more designs I want to make too, it's just that I'll have no money unless/until I can sell some Squeedo carts. This gets to be a lot more expensive than doing software experiments, heheh.
Thats pretty cool. So for the project I wanna do I have a simpler form for starting out. Ill open up an old cartridge and use an eprom writer to write new code to the chips. New chips thoguh so I wont have to dump the existing eproms.
