best hex you've ever had?
by on (#13046)
I'm having fun making reproductions and I'm looking for a good hex editor. I am currently using XVI32 and it sucks. It's especially difficult to double my file so that I can put a small rom on a larger eprom (I can't find how I can paste after the last bit??? I can only paste inbetween the 2nd to last and last.. What kind of crap is that?).

Since many of you have already shopped around for the best hex editor, would you share your expertise please?

I use frhed, which is a small but great hex editor. I haven't tried so many others, so I guess there are better out there, but frhed works for me...

I use Frhed too. It's really nice, but it does seem like it takes a really long time when you copy/paste a big part of the file (like doubling-up a 256kB file to 512kB). I think the docs mentioned that also.

I use Translhextion and it is very great. It has anything an hex editor should have. It has a lot of features. I'm happy with it.

Hex Workshop :) Haven't found anything quite as productive. It's ability to copy/paste selections from file to file is worth it's price alone.

i used hexposure awhile back (compared to others its lacking features, which led me to write my own).
